Hailing from Belle Glade: The Roots of Successful Toy

Successful Toy grew up in Belle Glade, a city teeming with culture and community spirit. She credits her hometown for nurturing her passion for storytelling and music. The energy of her community has deeply influenced her artistic voice.

"I’m from Belle Glade, Florida—a place that shaped me in so many ways. It’s a small town with a big heart, known for its resilience and rich culture. Growing up there taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and staying true to myself.

Question: Successful Toy When did you first fall in love with hip-hop?

Answer: I fell in love with hip-hop as a child. I had this natural ability to hear a rap song just once and instantly memorize it word for word. My grandmother would always say, “You better know your work just like you know those songs!” That stuck with me. I was so inspired by the music that I started rewriting songs with my own words, putting my own spin on them. That was my first step into the world of hip-hop, and I’ve been in love with it ever since.

Where are you from?

Answer: I’m from Belle Glade, Florida—a place that shaped me in so many ways. It’s a small town with a big heart, known for its resilience and rich culture. Growing up there taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and staying true to myself.

Question: What inspired you to become a recording artist?

Answer: I’ve always wanted to be a rapper. Early on, I performed at gay clubs, and one night at a house party, I was rapping a Jacki-O song when a guy who owned a studio invited me to record. I was excited, thinking it was my shot, but when I got there, he had other intentions, so I walked away. Later, another guy approached me in a strip club, asked me to drop a verse, and took me to his home studio. I recorded the verse, but I never heard what happened to the track—probably because he, too, had ulterior motives.

After those experiences, I stepped away from pursuing music because I refused to compromise myself just to make it. But then I met Ms. Toi, and she gave a real artist like me a real chance. It hasn’t been easy getting back into the music game, but now that I’m here, I know I have to step up and meet the standard—because let’s be real, Ms. Toi is no joke! Now, I’m focused, and I’m doing this the right way.

Question: What would be your dream collaboration?

Answer: If Jackie O were still making music, she would definitely be my top choice—her style, energy, and authenticity always stood out to me. Since she’s no longer in the game, my dream collaboration would be with Cardi B. I admire her confidence, versatility, and how she stays true to herself. I know we’d create something bold, raw, and unforgettable.

Question: How did you get into podcasting?

Answer: I got into podcasting because I wanted to create my own platform when no one else was giving me one. I saw that most media focused on drama, while real people with powerful stories and meaningful things to share were being overlooked. Instead of waiting for a seat at someone else’s table, I built my own—a space for authenticity, positivity, and voices that deserve to be heard.

Question: How did you meet the Icon, Ms.Toi?

Answer: I met Ms. Toi through another podcaster—let’s just leave it at that. Thank ya!

Question: Name your Top 5 artists dead or alive?

Answer: 1. 2Pac – A true legend who used his music to inspire, educate, and spark change. His words still resonate today.

2. Ms. Toi – A powerhouse artist who brings raw talent and realness to the game.

3. Keblow – An up-and-coming artist that people are sleeping on. He’s got something special, and the world needs to wake up to his talent.

4. Cardi B – She’s fearless, authentic, and always keeps it real. Her rise to success is proof that hard work and staying true to yourself pays off.

5. Kendrick Lamar – A lyrical genius who blends storytelling, consciousness, and creativity in a way that few can match.

Each of these artists has left (or is leaving) their mark on hip-hop in their own unique way.

Question: Why did you name yourself Successful Toy?

Answer: I came up with the name Successful Toy when I was on my way back to the strip club, trying to think of a fresh name since I had been out of the game for a while. I figured someone would already have the name Paradise, so I wanted something unique. As I was listening to the radio, “Successful” by Drake and Trey Songz came on, and it hit me—Successful was the perfect name. I knew no one else would have it. Later, when I started my podcast, I combined it with my nickname Toy, since people already knew me by both. That’s how Successful Toy was born.

Question: Do you write your own songs?

Answer: No

Question: What’s your favorite song you’ve recorded and why?

Answer: My favorite song I’ve recorded is TNT with Ms. Toi. That track holds a special place because it was my first time stepping into the studio and dropping a verse. Hearing it come to life and then seeing it on platforms was an incredible feeling—one that made me crave more. It was a moment of validation and excitement, and it definitely sparked my passion for creating more music.

Question: What’s next for Successful Toy?

Answer: I’ve got some exciting things coming up! First, I have a movie coming out called Secrets Kept, Lies Told, which is based on my life. It’s a personal and powerful story that I’m really excited for people to see. I’m also starring in a series called Can We Talk, and I’m working on new music, so be on the lookout for that too! There’s a lot in the works, and I can’t wait to share it all with you.
